Mykines sp/f is committed to fair and transparent refund practices. This Refund Policy outlines the conditions under which refunds are granted for ferry bookings made through mykines.fo. By completing a booking, you agree to the terms outlined in this policy.

2. Customer-Initiated Cancellations

2.1 Cancellation Timelines and Refund Rates

Refund eligibility depends on when you cancel your booking relative to the scheduled departure:

2.2 How to Cancel Your Booking

To cancel your booking:

  1. Go to the Manage Booking page
  2. Enter your booking reference and email address
  3. Click "Cancel Booking"
  4. Review the refund amount and confirm cancellation
  5. You will receive a cancellation confirmation email

2.3 Refund Processing Time

Refunds are processed automatically within 5-10 business days to the original payment method used for booking. Processing times may vary depending on your bank or payment provider.

3. Company-Initiated Cancellations

3.1 Weather or Operational Cancellations

If we cancel a sailing due to adverse weather conditions, technical issues, safety concerns, or other operational reasons, you will receive:

  • 100% automatic refund to your original payment method
  • Email notification explaining the reason for cancellation
  • No action required on your part

3.2 Alternative Options

In the event of a company-initiated cancellation, we may offer alternative sailing dates or times (subject to availability). You are not obligated to accept an alternative; a full refund is always available.

4. Modifications vs. Cancellations

4.1 Changing Your Booking

If you need to change your travel date or passenger details (rather than cancel):

  • More than 48 hours before departure: Free modifications allowed
  • Less than 48 hours before departure: Modifications subject to availability and may incur a fee

5. Non-Refundable Situations

Refunds will NOT be granted in the following situations:

  • No-shows: Failure to arrive at the departure point or board the ferry
  • Late arrival: Arriving after the scheduled departure time
  • Invalid documentation: Failure to present a valid booking confirmation
  • Passenger misconduct: Removal from the ferry due to disruptive or dangerous behavior
  • Voluntary no-show: Choosing not to board for personal reasons

6. EU Consumer Rights (Right of Withdrawal)

Under EU consumer protection laws, you normally have a 14-day "cooling-off period" to cancel purchases made online. However, this right does NOT apply to:

  • Transport services on a specific date or time (e.g., ferry bookings)

Instead, our cancellation policy (outlined in Section 2) applies. This is in accordance with EU Directive 2011/83/EU, Article 16(l).

7. Special Circumstances

7.1 Medical Emergencies

If you cannot travel due to a sudden medical emergency, we may offer a partial or full refund at our discretion. You must provide:

  • Medical certificate from a licensed physician
  • Written request within 7 days of the scheduled departure

7.2 Force Majeure

In the event of extraordinary circumstances beyond our control (natural disasters, government restrictions, pandemics, etc.), refunds will be handled on a case-by-case basis in accordance with applicable laws.

If you have a complaint about a refund decision, please contact us at info@mykines.fo. We will review your case and respond within 7 business days.

If we cannot resolve your complaint to your satisfaction, you may contact the Faroese Consumer Authority or seek mediation through the European Consumer Centre.

9. Policy Updates

We reserve the right to update this Refund Policy at any time. Changes will be posted on this page with an updated "Last Updated" date. The policy in effect at the time of your booking applies to your reservation.
