The population of Mykines is about 10 to 15, although&nbsp;there are about 40 houses on the island.&nbsp;60 years ago the population of Mykines was 160 to 180. There is a school on the island, which was built in 1894 and a church that was built in 1879. The summer months bring more people to the island, with both locals and foreigners visiting. Mykines has a large bird population and over 1.000 sheep. The island is also known because of the renowned Faroese artist&nbsp;S&aacute;mal Joensen-Mikines (1906-1979)&nbsp;who is one of the most famous Faroese artists best known under the name Mikines. He was born&nbsp;in Innistova. Today his workshop is used for housing visitors under the name&nbsp;Mykinesstova.&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; Tindh&oacute;lmur Tindh&oacute;lmur is one of the islands on the Faroe Islands that many have seen, but only few have visited. If you arrive by plane, you often fly past Tindh&oacute;lm, which is quite a sight. Tindh&oacute;lmur has it&#39;s name from the spikes on the top of the island. These are called: Ytsti, Arni, L&iacute;tli, Brei&eth;i og Bogdi. Altough noone lives there now, this wasn&#39;t always the case. The tales say that a family (man, wife and child) once lived there. One day, while the man was out fishing, an eagle came and took the child up to one of the spikes. Even though the mother got a hold of the child, it was too late.
